  • It’s true, from the 1870s to the 1950s, bamboo fly rods (also known as split cane rods) enjoyed 75 years of top production in the United States. When products from China were placed under embargo, bamboo fly rods were harder to attain and their popularity with anglers was replaced by the new graphite or fiberglass rods.
  • HARDY RODS - YEAR OF MANUFACTURE. If you've been fortunate enough to acquire a vintage rod manufactured by theHouse of Hardy, the following chart may help you date it. The serial number adjacent to the date represents the number assigned to the first rod made in that year. For example, a rod with a serial number of E21655 would have been manufactured in 1931.
  • A Milwards Featherlite cane fishing rod. This rod has three sections. This rod is in good condition considering it's age. It is 12ft long. The bottom two sections are cane or bamboo and the top section is split cane. Also on the bottom section it has a serial no. Y352.A.12' All the eyes and whipping are in good condition. It has a full cork butt.

I have just been given a hardy split bamboo halford knockabout palakona number 7 flyrod 9 1/2 ft serial number H71936 COULD YOU PLEASEgive me info on if I should put it in a glass case for keepsake or can i use it to fish with and how much it is worth.

float, spinning , ledgering ,vintage hardy fishing rod called ``the general`` dates to circa 1928 -1930s this model by hardy is quite scarce ,it seldom appearing for sale, the rod is still highly good for fishing with if you like to fish with vintage hardy tackle or ideal for a rod collection
the rod is approx 152 inches long 2 sections are in whole bamboo cane the top tip is in palakona split cane hardy rod numbering is
9 2 g 4 t to rod butt
with inked name the `` the general to the bottom whole cane section the rod with cork handle the universal reel fittings the rod has its original brass ferrulls complete with original carved shaped ferrull plugs and green whipped rod rings intermediat whippings in green rod has its indian rubber butt.
